My Stoma Is Sticking Out

Does anyone know of any products that give that extra bit of security ie what is best to help it stick.

My stoma is sticking out.

Since i started a new med gattex in the attempt to get less output and some nutrition from what i eat on tpn for rest of life the width of stoma increased a tad where the wafer has to be adjusted more to fit. It was about time to change the ostomy bag anyway so i went into the bathroom removed the bag and gasp. A stoma is an opening created during surgery on the intestines. I look after the skin carefully and it s in reasonable condition.

And now i write this i m not sure why i just never asked the surgeon directly. Damaged skin around your stoma can be hard to manage because you need to place the ostomy pouching system over the irritated area. Faecal contact with skin for those with a colostomy pancaking where the output sticks to the top of the bag can cause the bag to lift and the output to come into contact with the skin which can cause sore irritated skin. There was about an inch of well intestine protruding out of my stoma.

The skin around your stoma should be dry. These enzymes can cause the skin to break down if it comes into. Most stomas stick out a little over the skin but some are flat. My stoma stick out about 1 inch had it since september last year sometimes though it can retract to skin level.

A stoma is very delicate. Ileostomy output is more acidic and corrosive as the enzymes are not being broken down by the colon. The surgeon certainly does have some control over it but perhaps not totally. When i went to get measured for my stoma i asked the stoma nurse if the surgeon knew the importance of creating a stoma which sticks out far enough she said yes.

When the intestine does not function well enough to move stool out through the anus a procedure can reroute part of the intestine to the surface of the abdomen waste can be eliminated into a pouch attached outside the body called an ostomy appliance. You may see a little mucus. Always has since i got it in 11 12. The feces that come out of the stoma can be very irritating to the skin.
